About Me

I received my PhD in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico in 2006. While I have always loved astronomy it has only recently grown into a professional field for me. I came to astronomy first as an avid amateur astrophotographer working on hardware modification of webcams to permit extended exposures and through C++ implementation of custom astroimage capture and post-processing (stacking) software. These projects and a general passion for image-processing ultimately led to my employment in the astronomy department at the University of Washington where I currently work in the LSST group under the guidance of Dr. Andrew Connolly.

Current Work

My current work focuses on the development of parallel distributed algorithms for processing vast quantities of astronomical imaging data. Specifically, I am working with the Hadoop Map/Reduce HDFS system. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Stripe 82 database is my testbed at the moment.
